Chicago, IL- State Representative Marcus C. Evans, Jr. supports South Suburban College as they begin recruitment for their 12 week Pre-Apprenticeship Program.

South Suburban College program manager for the 12 week pre-apprenticeship partners with Rep. Evans in hopes of recruiting more minorities in learning construction trades for a new or better employment opportunity. Rep. Evans has received feedback from members of the community about the need and how most job opportunities have an expectation and level of skill and experience. This gives people the opportunity to learn math skills, technical skills, intro to green building, intro to welding and job readiness.

Representative Evans expressed that there is so much opportunity in trades and minorities should have access to receiving training for such careers; carpenters, laborers’, roofers, bricklayers, plumbers, etc.

Rep. Evans says, “Apprenticeships are great because it gives residents the opportunity to learn a skill and get experience”.
